Who of you can say
that in all of your adult life
you only made your parents proud
That every action
they understood
Every life change
they stood behind
No, we are not getting into
what's right
and what's not
This is a simple yes or no
When you know something
is right
you know in your heart
Who do you live for
Your parents or yourselves
We all know Mom and Dad
lived their lives for themselves
and their children
I'm no different
and I'm not saying
you're wrong and I'm not
I'm just saying we each
are equally sure about something
and making exactly the same decision
The only difference
was the choice
and the choice is mine
just as it was yours
It does not mean
I don't respect you
and your choice
It just means I respect myself too
